and / and / and is a series of soft sculptures made of mixed fabrics, clay, acrylic paint, and ink.
The shaping process involves repetitive gestures of drowning the fabrics in clay, marking, folding, and activating them, hiding the marks, excavating them again. I try not to interfere, I stay with and make sure they become, yet I am there. The constant blend of time, body, and meaning currenting through.
The stitches are kept precarious, their stability never fully secured. The edges of the fabrics are gathered close, merged,
overtaken by each other, eventually figuring out, naming themselves along the way. The positions stiffen with time, the folds question what gets focus and what stays hidden.
Shaping the linear fabrics feels like writing and reading at the same time along my biographic bodily happening – self-reflective sudden memories, possible auto-fictions, unfamiliar meanings and shifts in perception – an odd manifestation of fluidity along with
fixities, punctuations, and recurrent forces.
Briefly transgressing my daily narratives, these intimations fill with time and linger on, breeding otherness and intimate together.

Ingrid André is a Belgian born artist based in Helsinki since 2006. She works across contemporary dance and visual arts and is currently finishing her studies in the field of perceptual pedagogy / FULL PRESENCE practice (founded by Ph.D. Danis Bois).
As a perceptual practitioner and pedagogue, she works with both
individual and groups.
Ingrid is interested in how intimate and collective weave themselves together in beings, in bodies, and how they express.
She is curious about what makes and thinks a body. Her work involves practicing thinking, listening, telling, and encountering from elsewhere…from another place in/of us.

Hei, minä olen Huriye Genc, syntynyt 1985 Turkissa. Valmistuin Marmaran yliopistosta kemian opettajaksi, työskentelin opettajana jonkin aikaa Turkissa vuoden 2016 tapahtumien takia, jouduin pakenemaan ulkomaille. Ateenassa noin kymmenen kuukauden asumisen jälkeen tulin Suomeen kesäkuussa 2019. Kun menetin työni, aloin taas maalata, mistä olen ollut kiinnostunut lapsuudesta asti. Minä en ole ammattitaidemaalari eikä minulla ole koulutusta taidealalta. Olen asunut Suomessa kaksi ja puoli vuotta. Olen opiskelemassa suomen kieltä.
Inspiraation lähteeni maalauksissa ovat kokemani tapahtumat tai minua järkyttäneet epäoikeudenmukaisuudet. Olen myös kiinnostunut muotokuvien ja maiseman maalaamisesta. Teen maalaukseni öljymaalilla, siveltimellä tai maalausveitsi tekniikalla, joskus molemmilla yhdessä.

Laura Hasanen is a Finnish-American artist currently based in Helsinki. She received her BFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston in 2015. She is currently pursuing her MA in Nordic Visual Studies and Art Education at Aalto University.

Laura works primarily as a papermaker and sculptor. Her work focuses on the relationship between body and material, drawing inspiration from embodied investigation and spontaneous reactions that derive from engaging with various mediums. She often works with themes of connectedness, caring, and the human body.

Oh I Thought I Could Contain it is an exploration of Butler’s concept of undone-ness through material. The works serve as a way to capture shifting states of containment and release/ vulnerability and impenetrability. Through material exploration, I’m attempting to show how these states make visible the ephemerality, vulnerability, and permeability of being in relation.

”Vuosi sitten ostettuani ensimmäiset siveltimeni ja akryylimaalini, ihan vain kokeillakseni, huomasin minkä takia en ikinä aikaisemmin ole innostunut mistään kokeilemastani harrastuksesta tai lajista. Pienestä asti olen tykännyt piirtää ja toteuttaa ajatuksiani paperille, mutta että osaisinko maalata? Tai onko minussa oikeasti olemassa jonkinlaista luovuutta tai luomisen taitoa?
Tämän vuoden sisällä en ainoastaan ole oppinut eri materiaaleista ja tekniikoista vaan paljon myös itsestäni, jonka takia maalaamisesta on tullut enemmänkin itsensä ilmaisua.
– Tässä ensimmäisessä näyttelyssäni haluan korostaa minulle isointa inspiraation lähdettä, eli luontoa. Näyttelyssä näkyy figuratiivista sekä abstraktia taidetta, jotka ovat molemmat lähellä sydäntäni.”

Taina Hakala: Maisemamaalauksia Galleria Bokvillanin kahvilasalissa 7.-30.12.2021

”Toteutin pitkäaikaisen haaveeni ja ikuistin rakkaita lähimaisemia öljymaalauksiin. Teokset on maalattu luonnoskirjojen ja valokuvien pohjalta 2020 ja 2021.

Katsellessani vanhoja maisemamaalauksia museoiden seinillä pysähdyn usein miettimään mennyttä aikaa ja kuvittelen minkälainen maailma näkymän maalanneen maalarin ympärillä on silloin ollut. Katselen valoa ja mietin onko ollut lämmin päivä, mistä päin on tuullut, mitä tuoksuja ilmassa on ollut ja mitä ääniä on kuulunut.

Vuodenajasta ja vuorokauden ajasta sekä säästä riippuen samat paikat näyttäytyvät erilaisina ja tarjoavat ihmiselle aina jotain tarkkailtavaa, erilaisia kasvun vaiheita, valon, varjon, värien ja muotojen loputonta leikkiä.

Luonnoskirjoihini olen tallentanut vuosien kuluessa toistuvasti samoja aiheita, näkymiä jotka tuttuudessaan tuntuvat pysyviltä arjen palasilta. 

Kuitenkin osa näistäkin näkymistä on jo tällaisenaan mennyttä: Kevätvalon silta on vaihtunut uuteen, padon yläpuolella ollut puutalo paloi vuosia sitten ja etenkin korona-aikana kapeat, ennen lähes salaiset polut ovat leventyneet isommiksi väyliksi kasvillisuuden väistäessä. Joten olen todella onnellinen että olen ikuistanut edes nämä näkymät tällaisina, dokumentoinut pienen palan paikallista historiaa.

Hakala on pääasiassa itseoppinut taiteilija ja työskentelee sarjakuvien, kollaasien ja maalaustaiteen parissa. Parhaillaan Hakala työstää sarjakuva-albumia Helene Schjerfbeckistä.”

Taina Hakala Landscape paintings

Cafe Bokvillan 7.-30.12.2021

”I materialized a long time dream of mine and made oil paintings of my favorite places and familiar surroundings. I have painted the works in 2020 and 2021, based on my sketchbooks and photographs over many years.

When I look at old landscape paintings in museums I often try to imagine the world that surrounded the painter at the time. Was it a warm day? Where did the wind blow? What scents did it carry? What sounds did the painter hear?

Depending on the season, time of the day and the weather, same places look different and offer an endless stream of light and shadow, colors and forms for us to observe and enjoy.

I have drawn the same motifs and places into my sketchbooks time and time again, regarding them as permanent pieces of my everyday surroundings. But many of these places have already started to change:

bridges and duckboards have been changed, the wooden house above the dam burned down years ago and the narrow, once almost secret paths have become wider, vegetation retreating. So I’m quite happy to have captured at least a tiny bit of this local history.

Hakala is mostly a self educated artist and works on comics, collage and painting. At the moment she works on a comic album about painter Helene Schjerfbeck.”
